Patch 0.5 has turned Expedition into one of those mechanics you either ignore completely or build your whole mapping routine around. If you're chasing logbooks, raw drops, and enough PoE 2 Currency to make the grind feel worthwhile, the Big Boom setup is hard to beat. It's quick, messy, and a bit scary when the screen wakes up all at once, but that's the point. Instead of carefully placing explosives one by one, you set up one enormous blast and let the remnants do the heavy lifting.

Why the Big Boom works
The whole trick comes from the Refined Formula Atlas passive. It gives your Expedition explosive a much larger radius and much better placement range, but it also cuts you down to a single explosive. Sounds like a harsh trade at first. In practice, it's what makes the strategy so fast. You drop one charge, catch as many key remnants as possible, and detonate the entire pack in one go. There's no slow pathing, no awkward backtracking, and no fiddling around with tiny chains. You'll know pretty quickly if the layout is good, because the whole encounter pops open at once.

Chasing logbooks the smart way
Expedition Logbooks are still the big prize here. They're valuable because they open Grand Expeditions, and players are always willing to trade for them when the market is active. For normal map farming, your main focus should be Verisium Remnants. They're the pieces that push the loot ceiling higher, especially when you can catch several inside the same blast. Logbooks won't rain from the sky every map, so don't expect magic after three runs. The value comes from running a lot of high-tier maps, clearing the Expedition properly, and stacking every reasonable bonus you can.

Runes make the loot get silly
Verisium Remnants are where the setup starts to feel broken in the best way. These remnants can add extra runes to later remnants, but with the Big Boom style, everything caught in the blast interacts at the same time. So if you tag multiple Verisium Remnants with several rune slots, the final monster waves can come out loaded. Seven to nine rune slots is the sweet spot most players want to see. Time Rune is especially nasty, since slain monsters can return at higher rarity. Add monster rarity, modifier transfer, and stronger rare spawns, and suddenly one Expedition turns into a loot pile you have to stop and sort through.

Maps, tablets, and the one mistake to avoid
For better results, use Tier 15 Waystones with six modifiers whenever your build can handle them. Prioritise monster rarity and monster effectiveness, then support the map with Irradiated Tablets, Overseer Tablets, or anything that pushes item rarity higher. On the Atlas tree, Evolutionary Pressure is a strong pickup because it improves monster effectiveness and helps rare monsters gain more modifiers from map affixes. Disengaged Safeties also fits well if you're leaning into irradiated areas. One warning, though: don't keep Refined Formula allocated when opening a real logbook. Grand Expeditions need multiple explosives to reach side areas, caves, and reward chains. As a professional platform for buying game currency and items, U4GM is convenient for players who want extra support, and you can buy u4gm PoE 2 Currency there to smooth out your mapping and trading experience.
