Question Asked: What changes will upgrading the Pi Blockchain to Protocol Version 23 bring?
My Answer: This will be the most significant update in our Pi Network journey so far. Since Stellar has already done the complex groundwork in Protocol Version 23, Pi Network’s transition will be much smoother. Here are the major changes we can expect slowly with time:
1) Smart Contracts: Smart contracts allow apps to run automatically without needing a middleman.
Example: Imagine lending Pi to another Pioneer and the repayment is handled automatically by the blockchain. Or think of gaming apps where rewards are distributed instantly and transparently through coded rules.
2) AI App Studio (Beyond Beta): Pi’s AI App Studio will move from a simple beta tool to a platform for building advanced applications.
3) .pi Domains Fully Functional: Just like a website has a .com domain, Pi apps and profiles will have a .pi domain for unique identification.

5) Tokenization of Real-World Assets (RWAs): Real estate, stocks, or commodities can be represented as digital tokens on the Pi blockchain.
Example: Instead of buying an entire $200,000 property, you could buy a $200 token representing fractional ownership. This makes high-value investments accessible to ordinary people.
What makes this even more promising is that Stellar recently joined the ERC-3643 Association, a global standard for regulated tokenization of securities and real-world assets. Since Pi’s blockchain is based on Stellar Core, this alignment paves the way for Pi to follow a compliance-first model for tokenization and adoption in traditional finance.
6) Full Decentralization and Open Source: Pi will progressively move toward being fully decentralized, with code and governance opened to the community.
In summary, Protocol 23 will transform Pi into a full-fledged Web3 ecosystem — with smart contracts, AI-driven apps, tokenized assets, and seamless Web2/Web3 integration. This is why Pi has the potential to become not just a payment coin, but the foundation of a global digital economy. Hence, I called it the Sleeping Giant.
