Google has created a groundbreaking earthquake detection system by using motion sensors from over two billion Android phones worldwide. Between 2021 and 2024, the system accurately detected more than 11,000 earthquakes in 98 countries, providing timely alerts and improving public safety.

While early versions struggled during major quakes, like those in Turkey, ongoing updates are showing strong progress. Experts commend its global scale and accessibility but call for more transparency about how Google uses data and algorithms.
